Worst-ever Earthquake Hits India (Collection Spam collection) - 11/02/2001

anuary 26, 2001 - the Republic day of India. School children all over India gathered at their schools to celebrate the festival. At 8:46 a.m., Bhuj, Gujarat state was severely shaken by an earthquake and more than 400 young hearts were buried alive!
But what about the living dead, those who wish they had perished in the quick, decisive act of mother nature. Their families are dead, and their entire lives' achievements and aspirations have been crushed in seconds. Many of them feel that their survival is not a miracle, but a curse.
The worst-ever earthquake in the history of India has already swallowed 100,000 lives. Many millions are starving. Diarrhoea has already spread in many areas. Medical teams apprehend cholera, typhoid, gastroenteritis, hepatitis and tetanus.
Survivors in the interior villages are anxiously looking for two essential things: 1. Food (most of them have been starving for many days) 2. Medical help.
The Chief Minister of Gujarat, Mr. Keshubhai Patel personally invited ISKCON to help in the relief activities.
ISKCON is a non-profit, charitable trust registered in Bombay, India. It has a long record of participating in relief works during the Orissa Supercyclone, the Latur earthquake, and the Bengal floods. Now we are engaged in food and medical relief in the earthquake affected areas of Gujarat state.
Nothing can be done for the more than 100,000 innocent people who passed away. But we can do something for those who have survived the earthquake. Several months of hard work is needed for complete rehabilitation of earthquake hit areas.
If you want to help the earthquake relief through ISKCON, please send an e-mail to info@iskcontrust.org <mailto:info@iskcontrust.org> with subject line "send info". We will send you the details how you can help.
Thank you for your kind attention,
With regards,
Bhima Das ISKCON Trustee
