Lack of romance is my real objection to writing on a computer.
I decided to be a writer when Hemingway and Faulkner (and Mickey Spillane) were still lighting the literary sky. I was going to be a hard- drinking guy, tough but sensitive, in my old tweed jacket, pounding out truths on the Royal portable that I'd dragged through Normandy (or Yaddo anyhow).
I can't picture myself fiddling with wires and transistors and geeky Popular Electronics hobby stuff like somebody who belonged to Ham Radio Club in high school. I became a writer to have a cape buffalo head on my wall, not a mouse on my plastic laminated Scooby-Do pad.

Dans un (très) vieux SVM, y'avait un article qui relatait l'expérience de plusieurs écrivains par rapport à leur outil de travail. Et la conclusion de l'un deux était qu'il écrivait de manière différente à la main sur du papier et à l'ordinateur (sans parler du fait que les générations futures n'auront plus de manuscrit à acheter aux enchères). Je me demande si ca s'applique aussi aux informaticiens (moi en tout cas, quand j'ai un gros bug, j'imprime le code (a2ps est un outil merveilleux) au bout d'un moment. C'est plus facile.) Le site de SVM n'a pas d'archive. Les miennes sont au fond du grenier et le scanner est en panne, de toute façon. Un jour j'avais révé d'un CDROM avec tous les vieux numéros de SVM, avant qu'il ne devienne illisible pour moi.

I guess it's the same with drawing on a paper with pencils or using a graphic tablet. I wonder if Chinese Calligraphy can be done on a computer. Although vectorial drawing with a tablet is really an addictive game.
