Viva Hun Sen - 05/01/2002

Samdech Hun Sen changed his mind: the Cambodia Daily is free to be published, as usual. Now, Samdech Hun Sen seems to have a problem with architecture.
Talibans got tricked by watercolor paint
Working alone in a cold room in the gallery, hiding when Taliban officials would happen in, Asefi carefully painted over people, cows, donkeys, birds and other animals. He matched the background colors perfectly; a riverbank filled with grazing cattle was made to look empty when he applied a watercolor mask. He worked on a few of his own paintings, although at least 26 of his had already been stolen or destroyed.

Asefi said the Taliban's religious police came regularly to the gallery to make sure their edicts against idolatry were being followed. The Taliban enforcers, most of whom were illiterate, never spotted his handiwork -- just as they had never spotted watercolors he had added four years ago to 42 paintings exhibited at the Foreign Ministry.
Researchers find evidence that human heart may repair itself . I guess the guys doing the research neved had a broken heart before, or it would have sounded obvious to them.
Kylix Help pages are, at last, available in html.
I know where Bruce Lee lives (via LMG): I would call it Bruce Lee in a Batman episode.
The Frontier Newbie Toolbox
There is a common complaint on all the Frontier lists: Where are the docs?. It's true that there's a huge amount of documentation and resources available online, but the problem is where to find what you really need. Usually, the Frontier Newbie doesn't even know where to start!

In Non Profit quarterly, The Magic of Dialogue:
Webster defines the purpose of dialogue as seeking mutual understanding and harmony. I put less emphasis on harmony than the dictionary does, because the outcome of dialogue is not always harmony. In fact, as a consequence of dialogue you may come to understand why you disagree so vehemently with someone else; there will be better understanding but not necessarily more harmony.
All practitioners of dialogue emphasize that debate is the opposite of dialogue. The purpose of debate is to win an argument, to vanquish an opponent. Dialogue has very different purposes--it’s about exploring common ground. Dialogue is also different from discussion.
Do you know what a B.O.B. is ? I didn't.
The Acronym Finder had a lot of suggestions: Battery Operated Boyfriend seems the most appropriate.
Rhyme Zone: NaSM rhymes with spasm and phantasm.
One week without Liberty Meadows: that was hard.
There are four reasons I changed from newspapers to comic books.
The most important one is creative freedom. After five years of constant newspaper censorship and editorial interference, I'd just had enough of it. Comic books will provide me the creative freedom that I want. Secondly, I just had my first child, Emily, who was born Dec. 24th, and I needed to take some time off to focus on her, especially since I'm not getting any sleep. With her around, there was no way I could keep up with the daily deadlines. Third, I felt there was no support from newspaper editors. It seemed that many of them are only interested in family comic strips, suitable for children five and under. They've made it clear in the past that they disapprove of Liberty Meadows' humor and content, which is geared to teenagers and grownups. Fourth, I'm kind of burned out. I've been working and battling censorship for five years straight and I just need to take some time off to recharge my batteries.
